This course provides an overview of the Chinese legal
system. It offers a historical overview of the system
and discusses the political and judicial structures in
China. In addition, it explores the different sources
of law in the Chinese legal system, the various legal
actors in the country, and the increasingly important
issue concerning the education and qualifications of
lawyers. The course also explores substantive areas of
the law as well as issues concerning the protection of
human rights and intellectual property.
Each student is required to write a final paper on a
topic related to Chinese law. The length of the paper should be
between 10 and 15 pages.
